Siem Reap
6. Januar 2007, Samstag
(Kompong Thom - Siem Reap: 150 km, 7 h 32', 19.9 km/h)
(Kompong Cham - Kompong Thom 120 km, 6 h 38', 17.4 km/h)

Before I continue with my report from Cambodia, this is the link to the map of Southvietnam (red my route and the places I slept):

Siem Reap is the fastest growing city in Cambodia and we noticed when we had to deal with the chaotic traffic in town. Now I feel slightly recovered and am planing my visit of the Angkor temples and the journey to Thailand. Of the for people of our group are two lying in bed with fever, the last three days were pretty exhausting. In the hottest time around lunch we usually try to take a brake, but its impossible to avoid the 32 degrees hot air completely.

(Kompong Thom - Siem Reap: 150 km, 7 h 32', 19.9 km/h)
These 150 km will not be forgotten quickly. Although it was flat , the road in good condition and the traffic bearable, this stretch demanded everything from us. It was hot and we felt in our legs that the last two days we had done more than 100 km each day. Since all of us are cycling at least four months, it was again a mind thing, this means we have enough power to do it, but the will had to be nourished again and again. I do this by checking my position on the bike, I check different points of my posture, check my breathing, recall to myself what kind of adventure I am experiencing. Thanks to my Brooks-saddle (thank you Franziska) I had no problems with my but hurting.
Just before it got dark we arrived in Siem Reap and we werde happy, since it is the peak season, after about 6 attempts, to find two rooms in the Orchidae Guesthouse.
January 5., 2007, friday
(Kompong Cham - Kompong Thom 120 km, 6 h 38', 17.4 km/h)
The ride from Kompong Cham to Kompong Thom was very beautiful. We cycled on a small road with little traffic, along small villages, through wast rubberplantations and all the time we were accompanied by the 'hello' (sometimes also 'hellohellohellohellohello') of the children. Being in the plantations was like being in a labyrith and we were happy that 4 joung guys on a motorbike accompanied us and showed us the right way. In many villages there are noisy generators runing during the day and they are charging many car batteries. I assume this is because these villages have no electricity and by having one of those batteries they have light and TV.

Hi Adi!
How fun to read your stories! We're so happy you liked the Mekong Delta...imagine we talked you into a detour you would not have liked. Great you biked the border to Cambodia! Jealous!
And those 150 km to Siem Reap. We know the feeling...did the same.
Enjoy the temples...and ride the ride anti clock wise:less busy!!
We are home now for 3 days, tomorrow back to work. Too early!
Take care,
Erik & Saskia
